Have you ever heard the proverb about how you grow a tree for only ten years, but you have to grow men over a hundred?

I guess not then. In English it means that human progress is tied with education and that you have to nurture those skills and talents over time for the betterment of everyone. Which is why I've brought myself here.

There is a time to say goodbye to the military and lead a quieter life, like others I know. Because you can't stay in that kind of environment forever. I loved studying when I was in university and returning the favour is probably the best to do. Plus there will be new people to meet and new technologies to develop. It's a really conducive atmosphere to learning, collaboration - oh.

Really, there's nothing for me to lose. I like having the free time too. Makes it easier to catch up on reading.

I am the Ethics teacher.

Tell me what you believe in. Simply for discussion.

Before we go further, I've been rude not to introduce myself. My name is Mei Ling. I will be teaching Data Analysis.

As for what I believe... Well, pacifism at the heart of it. But pacifism that is pragmatic. "Very few wars are worth fighting for" says Bertrand Russell. So certain conflicts are are permissible as the lesser evils to fulfill our duty to humanity.

I believe that it is fully permissible and ethical to defend onesself. But we must strike at the heart of the issue, those things that cause violence to begin with.

... There is no good. There is no evil. There is just man; of the same constitution, corrupted.

Yet you acknowledge that there is corruption, and that is of what I speak. That is what must be eliminated, and all that cause such infections.

What is it again, hm...

I'm not one to proclaim the cause of corruption, but the pursuit of empty values is perhaps the strongest of them all. "A corrupted man is nothing more than a deceiving and frivolous exterior, honor without virtue, reason without wisdom, and pleasure without happiness."

[identity profile] will-be-god.livejournal.com 2011-05-25 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
And yet the pursuit of values with a strong basis in history and reality is not the same. To view it as such is to dismiss all potential in creation.
